Cousin Jaime is Famous!

My cousin Jaime came to visit us when her play came to Kalamazoo. She is in a play called The Magic Treehouse. We went to the mall and went to dinner. She danced with me too. The best part of the whole weekend was when I saw her play. She was on stage, dancing and singing. I pointed and yelled as soon as I saw her. My cousin is famous. How cool is that?

La La Land

Mommy, Grandma, and I flew to Los Angeles to visit Uncle Corey and Sara. We were gone ten days. First, we visited with Sara's mommy, daddy, and grandpa. They liked me, so that shows they have good taste. We hit all the tourist spots. We went to the Farmer's Market (which is totally different in L.A. then in MI), Santa Monica Beach, Hollywood, and Disneyland. We even fit in a U of M game. I was so tired that I barely minded flying the red eye home. My favorite part was dancing with Sara.

My Summer

My many fans have been emailing me to find out what I've been up to the past few months. I'm sorry I haven't kept up my blog. I have had a very busy summer. So, I'll break it down for you by month.

July
I began perfecting this whole walking thing. I don't know why I didn't try it sooner. I can reach so much more stuff! Mommy and Daddy have to keep a closer eye on me, but that's okay. Gotta keep 'em busy. I also started drinking out of a sippy cup. I attended my first Red Hat Queen party to celebrate Grandma's friend Linda's 60th birthday. (She's been alive FOR-EVER.) I went to my friend Evie's Second Birthday party at the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. I had so much fun. I've never seen so many kids my own age before. I even found my musical talent and played the piano.

Uncle Mikey came home for a visit and we went to the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum. I enjoyed playing let's chase Emma around historical artifacts.

We watched a video about President Ford.

Uncle Mikey showed me what the Oval Office looks like.

August

For Grandma's birthday, we went to the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. I built towers, made bubbles, explored a construction site, and played musical instruments. I showed Grandma and Grandpa how to do everything.

My friends Annie and Will Davis went to the zoo with me. (We let our parents come too.)

What's New with Emma Lynn?

I am now 1 year old. I have learned a great many things during this past year. I understand the complexity of the great game of Peek-a-boo. I have mastered the eating and throwing of table food. I am now an accomplished crawler, stander, and will soon join the ranks of the walkers. (I took two steps last week!) I fully enjoy the purest pleasures in life; a well drawn bath, a game of "Fetch that Mommy" and, of course, the genius that is Pablo. What more is there for me? My life is so full and I am well traveled. (After all, I have met Mickey Mouse.) What's next for me? Speach. Yes, I have begun to share all my great thoughts and ideas with the world. I'm sure that it is not ready for such insight, so I must, therefore, express myself at full volume, much to the great dismay of my Mom. For example, I know that Fr. Phil loves my input during his homily. I have also found that I am great entertainment to the other patrons at any restaurant, shopping mall, or public place I am visiting.

The last two months have been very busy for such a smallish sort of person. (Apparently, I come by that naturally.) I had my second Easter. My Uncle Mike came home to see us and brought Kacey. They both played with me and took me to the mall. Grandma and Grandpa were in L.A. visiting Uncle Corey and Sara, so Mommy made dinner. I liked the scalloped potatoes and the ham.

In April, Grandma Jo-Ann came for the weekend to visit. We went shopping and played on the floor. I gave her a tour of my town and the local places of interest. We even went to Rockford and watched the fish jump.

On Mother's Day weekend, Mommy, Daddy, and I went away for our first overnight weekend away, just the three of us. We went to the Harbour House Inn in Grand Haven. It was very nice. We walked on the beach, went shopping, and enjoyed the quiet. I don't understand this "quiet" she keeps talking about, but apparently she doesn't get much of it. On Sunday, we met Grandma and Grandpa for lunch and then went shopping. (I'm starting to see a pattern here.)

Baby Jail

It's official. I'm crawling. I've figured this place out and must be contained. My parents have discovered that the only way to keep me out of trouble while they need to do essential things, like shower, is to put me in baby jail. It won't be long and I'll make my escape.

Is anyone looking?

Wow. I've been super busy. Did you guys know about this Christmas stuff? During Advent, we started preparing for it. Mommy said we were getting ready for Baby Jesus' birthday. We went shopping for presents for everyone and visited with a lot of people. Uncle Corey and Aunt Sara came from Los Angeles and Uncle Mike came from Daytona Beach. We all went to Ann Arbor to watch Michigan play UCLA at basketball. It was a close game. I didn't care because they gave me these yellow pieces of foam. I hit everything with them, including the people in front of us. They had on UCLA shirts, so they really should've expected it. I also got to visit with our friend Kirby and Uncle Mike's girlfriend, Kacey. On Christmas Eve, we went to mass and the children put on a play. Afterward, we went to Grandma and Grandpa Hilton's house for dinner and to open presents. I got so many nice things, especially my new Surfer Pablo. On Christmas morning, Mommy and Daddy told me that Santa came. We opened our presents from him and from my family on the East Coast. Then we called them to wish them a Merry Christmas. Mommy made Christmas dinner for the Hilton side of the family and then we played games. My Daddy rocks at ESPN Scene-It. Grandpa Hilton's birthday was on the 28th. He woudn't tell me how old he was. He's older than Daddy, who's REALLY old because he'll be 30 February 2nd, so I bet he's 38 or 40. We all went to Frankenmuth for dinner at Zehnder's and shopping at Bronner's, the World's largest Christmas store. I was a little overwhelmed by all the lights and people. I handled it well and decided to take a nap. On New Year's Eve, I spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa Hilton's. It was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the new year, I've never had one before. I have a lot of new things to learn. I've already started pulling myself up, standing with help, and I've taken a couple steps. I am eating off the table and holding my own bottle. I have 6 teeth now and am working on more. It's going to be a great year! See you soon. Love, Emma.
